Online Considerations for All Users

  1. Your name cannot have changed since the issuance of your last document.
  2. Your physical description cannot have changed significantly.
    The photo and physical description from your current document will be used on your new document.
  3. You may be able to renew your CDL online every other renewal period if your license expires prior to your 72nd birthday, and your Class O or Class M license two consecutive renewal periods if your license expires prior to your 72nd birthday. You can renew your State ID Card online three consecutive renewal periods regardless of your age.
  4. You have the capability to move from a driver's license to a State ID Card online. If you do so and desire your driver's license back, you will be required to take all knowledge and skills tests to do so.

You can obtain a School Permit (SCP) online if you:

  1. Have held a School Learner's Permit, Learner's Permit or combination for at least two months,
  2. Are at least 14 years and two months old and under age 16 years and 3 months old,
  3. Meet eligibility requirements for a School Permit, and
  4. Have successfully completed a DMV-approved driver safety course.

You can obtain a Provisional Operator's Permit (POP) online if you:

  1. Have held a School Learner's Permit, School Permit, Learner's Permit or combination for at least six months,
  2. Hold a School Permit or have completed a DMV-approved driver safety course, and
  3. Are at least 60 days from your 16th birthday and under age 18.
    Note: This permanent document will NOT be produced until the day of your 16th birthday.

You can obtain a driver's license online if you:

  1. Have held your Provisional Operator's Permit for at least 12 months,
  2. Are at least 17 years old and
  3. Have not accumulated three or more points on your driving record during the previous 12 month period.

Note: If you are 18 years of age or older, you must have held a Provisional Operator's Permit (POP) to obtain a driver's license online.

You can renew your driver's license online 10 days prior to your 21st birthday.


You can renew your driver's license online if you:

  1. Have a license expiring prior to your 72nd birthday.
  2. Have not obtained more than two replacements online within the last five years.
  3. Do not want to change your CDL self-certification category type. (CDL only)
  4. Do not have a hazmat endorsement. (CDL only)

Note: State ID Cards can be renewed online with no maximum age restrictions.


You can obtain an Ignition Interlock Permit or Sobriety Program Permit online if you:

  1. Have been authorized to do so by the Financial Responsibility Division of the DMV and
  2. Have held a valid Nebraska driver's license within the last 12 months. You cannot get an Ignition Interlock Permit or Sobriety Program Permit to operate a commercial motor vehicle.

You can obtain a replacement online if you hold a driver's license, Ignition Interlock Permit or State ID Card if you:

  1. Do not need to change your name, photo or physical description.
  2. Have not obtained more than two replacements online within the last five years.
  3. Do not want to change your CDL self-certification category type. (CDL only)

To complete your request, you will need the following items:

  • A MasterCard, Visa or Discover Credit Card
  • A valid e-mail address and telephone number
  • If changing your address: Proof of Address Change documents. Click the following link for a list of approved documents for uploading.
  • Commercial Driver's License Only:
    • Proof of Citizenship, if not already on file. Click the following link for a list of acceptable proof of citizenship documents .
    • Self Certification Category A – Interstate – Non-Excepted Drivers only: Current medical examiner's certificate (card, not long form).

Please allow 20 days for receipt of your permanent documents.

There is a $5.00 security charge assessed for every document issued online or in person by the DMV.
The final transaction total includes the statutory agency fees (security charge & document fee) as well as the vendor's fee to operate this online service.
